What Account Type Code 0A means

    • Operating credit, not capital credit. It funds the cost of producing a crop or raising livestock rather than buying land or equipment.
    • Reported as Portfolio Type I even though the repayment pattern is seasonal, which makes Terms Frequency the field that carries the seasonality.
    • Does NOT cover farm real estate. A loan secured by farmland is a real-estate obligation and belongs under a mortgage code.
    • Does NOT cover a revolving agricultural line the borrower redraws each season. That product shape is a line of credit.
    • Appears in consumer files because many farm operators borrow personally or with a personal guarantee, so the obligation reaches the consumer file.

    When to report 0A

    • 1A farm credit lender reports an annual operating loan repaid from harvest proceeds in a single seasonal payment.
    • 2A community bank reports an input-financing loan to a row-crop farmer with a lien on the growing crop.
    • 3An agricultural lender reports a cattle-feeding operating note repaid when the animals are sold.
    • 4A cooperative's finance arm reports a seasonal fertilizer and chemical purchase loan carried in the borrower's name.

    Reporting rules

    • Match Terms Frequency to the actual repayment pattern. Reporting M on a loan with one annual payment misstates the obligation and distorts delinquency calculations.
    • Report the committed operating advance in Highest Credit rather than the borrower's total operating budget.
    • Do not report a farm real-estate loan under 0A. Use the applicable mortgage code so the lien shows in the mortgage view of the file.
    • Where the borrower is a business and the consumer is only a guarantor, confirm the account genuinely belongs in the consumer file before furnishing it.
    • Renewals for a new production season are new obligations. Close the old tradeline rather than extending it indefinitely.

Codes and fields that must agree

A file can be structurally valid and still be wrong. These are the cross-field conditions Account Type Code 0A has to satisfy.

    • Portfolio Type must be I (Installment), which requires a Scheduled Monthly Payment Amount and a numeric Terms Duration in months.
    • Terms Frequency is where the seasonality lives. Y (Yearly), S (Semiannually), Q (Quarterly), and single-payment frequencies are common and legitimate here, unlike on a standard consumer installment loan.
    • Scheduled Monthly Payment Amount must still be populated on Portfolio Type I. On a single-payment seasonal note, report the amount consistent with the reported Terms Frequency rather than leaving the field zero.
    • Credit Limit must be zero-filled. A redrawable seasonal facility is a line of credit product, not 0A.
    • The K3 segment must be absent. This is not a real-estate tradeline.
    • A personal guarantee behind a farm entity is expressed through ECOA and the J1 or J2 segment.
