What Consumer Information Indicator 1A means
- A receivership places a consumer's assets or income under the control of a court-appointed receiver. It is a distinct legal proceeding from a bankruptcy case.
- Purging treatment matches bankruptcy: the Date of First Delinquency freezes and the tag drives the same retention behaviour.
- It has no chapter. Do not map a receivership to A, B, C, or D just because those codes are more familiar to your mapping table.
- It is one of the codes the Q deletion code can remove, which is why Q is described as clearing A through H and 1A rather than only the bankruptcy codes.
- The code is two characters. A field trimmed or padded incorrectly can turn 1A into a single character and fail validation, which is the most common mechanical error on this code and on 2A.
When to report 1A
- 1A lender in a jurisdiction that uses consumer receivership proceedings receives a receiver's notice and tags the tradeline with 1A.
- 2A servicer receives a court order placing a borrower's income under a receiver and stops direct collection activity while continuing to furnish.
- 3A furnisher migrating from a legacy system finds receivership accounts previously mapped to a bankruptcy chapter code and corrects them to 1A.
- 4A bank's compliance review identifies receivership-flagged accounts whose DOFD was moved after the tag was applied and corrects the dates.
Reporting rules
- Use 1A only for a genuine personal receivership, never as a catch-all for any court proceeding you do not have a code for.
- Report both characters. A single-character value in a two-byte field will not validate.
- Freeze the Date of First Delinquency once 1A is on the record.
- When the receivership ends and the indicator should come off, use Q. Blanking the field is not the documented removal path.
- Do not use 1A to describe a business receivership on an account that is not a consumer obligation. Consumer credit reporting covers consumer obligations.
Codes and fields that must agree
A file can be structurally valid and still be wrong. These are the cross-field conditions Consumer Information Indicator 1A has to satisfy.
- Date of First Delinquency is frozen, exactly as with the bankruptcy codes.
- Account Status continues to report the account's actual performance during the receivership.
- Current Balance and Amount Past Due keep reporting what is genuinely owed. A receivership is not a payment.
- The indicator applies to the consumer named on the segment it appears in, so a co-obligor not in receivership is not tagged.
- Q removes 1A. S does not; S removes the reaffirmation and lease-assumption family.
