What Consumer Information Indicator H means

    • Covers both discharge and completion of the plan, which in a Chapter 13 are usually the same milestone reached from different directions.
    • Replaces D. A tradeline still carrying D three years after the plan completed reports an active case that no longer exists.
    • The account survives but is tagged, like the other discharge codes.
    • Payments made through the plan are real and remain in the payment history. H does not erase or rewrite the months the consumer paid.
    • It does not mean the account is current in the ordinary sense. It means the case concluded.

    When to report H

    • 1A mortgage servicer receives the trustee's final report and discharge order after a five-year plan and moves the CII from D to H.
    • 2An auto lender whose arrears were cured through a completed plan updates the tagged tradeline at plan completion.
    • 3A credit union receives a Chapter 13 discharge on a signature loan and zeroes the remaining unsecured balance.
    • 4A furnisher's monthly bankruptcy reconciliation identifies D-tagged accounts whose cases closed and updates them in the next file.

    Reporting rules

    • Report H in the cycle you learn the plan completed or the discharge entered.
    • Zero any balance that was discharged, and keep reporting any balance that legitimately survives, such as a secured loan the consumer is retaining and paying.
    • Do not leave D on a completed case, and do not blank the field instead of reporting H.
    • Do not re-age the Date of First Delinquency at completion. A completed plan does not create a fresh start date for the old delinquency.
    • If the case was dismissed rather than completed, H is not the accurate code.

Codes and fields that must agree

A file can be structurally valid and still be wrong. These are the cross-field conditions Consumer Information Indicator H has to satisfy.

    • Current Balance reflects what actually remains owed. On a retained secured loan that continues after the plan, that is a real, non-zero balance.
    • Account Status matches the facts: a satisfied account moves to a closed, zero-balance status, while a retained loan continues reporting its ongoing status.
    • Date of First Delinquency stays frozen at its pre-petition value.
    • Payment History Profile keeps the months paid through the plan; those months are not rewritten by the completion.
    • On a joint account, only the filer's segment carries H; a non-filing co-obligor's obligation is reported independently.
