What Consumer Information Indicator G means
- The discharge counterpart of C, and the least common code in this set.
- Replaces C on the record once the case discharges.
- The account is tagged rather than removed, exactly as with the other discharge codes.
- Chapter 12 discharge typically follows completion of plan payments, so the payment history during the plan period is real history and stays on the record.
- Because C and G are rare, they are frequently absent from legacy mapping tables. An unrecognised chapter that silently falls back to a Chapter 7 code produces a wrong filing on the consumer's file.
When to report G
- 1An agricultural lender receives a Chapter 12 discharge order on an equipment note and moves the CII from C to G.
- 2A community bank completes its post-plan reconciliation for a family farming borrower and updates the tagged tradelines.
- 3A rural credit union zeroes the remaining unsecured portion of a member loan after Chapter 12 discharge.
- 4A furnisher audits its C-tagged inventory quarterly and moves the discharged cases to G rather than leaving them pending indefinitely.
Reporting rules
- Report G only for a genuine Chapter 12 discharge. Do not use it as a generic discharge code.
- Adjust the Current Balance in the same record to what remains legally collectible.
- Do not leave C on a discharged case.
- Do not re-age the Date of First Delinquency.
- Keep the tradeline reporting; discharge tags it, it does not remove it.
Codes and fields that must agree
A file can be structurally valid and still be wrong. These are the cross-field conditions Consumer Information Indicator G has to satisfy.
- Current Balance and Amount Past Due reflect what the consumer still legally owes after discharge.
- Account Status moves to the matching closed or paid condition; the zero-balance statuses require both Current Balance and Amount Past Due to be zero.
- Date of First Delinquency stays frozen where the petition froze it.
- The discharged consumer's segment is the only one that carries G.
- Terms Duration and Terms Frequency continue to describe the original contract unless the loan itself was modified.
