What Consumer Information Indicator F means

    • The Chapter 11 counterpart of E. It records the outcome of a reorganization case that reached discharge.
    • Replaces B on the record. A tradeline carrying B after the case has been discharged reports a resolved case as still pending.
    • The account survives but is tagged, in the same way as the other discharge codes.
    • Discharge under a confirmed plan does not necessarily mean nothing was paid. Amounts actually received during the case belong in the payment history, which F does not overwrite.
    • It does not imply the plan succeeded commercially, only that the case reached discharge.

    When to report F

    • 1A lender holding a personally guaranteed note receives the Chapter 11 discharge order for the individual and updates the CII from B to F.
    • 2A mortgage servicer records discharge of an individual Chapter 11 case and zeroes the remaining unsecured deficiency it had been reporting.
    • 3A private student loan servicer updates a tagged account after a rare individual Chapter 11 discharge.
    • 4A bank reconciles its bankruptcy vendor feed at month end and finds a set of B-tagged accounts whose cases have discharged, and moves them to F.

    Reporting rules

    • Report F in the cycle you learn of the discharge and adjust the balance to what remains legally collectible from the consumer.
    • Do not leave B on a discharged case.
    • Do not use F for a case that was dismissed or converted. Report the code that matches the chapter and outcome that actually occurred.
    • Do not re-age the Date of First Delinquency at discharge.
    • Keep furnishing the tradeline; a discharge is not an instruction to delete history.

Codes and fields that must agree

A file can be structurally valid and still be wrong. These are the cross-field conditions Consumer Information Indicator F has to satisfy.

    • Current Balance reflects only what remains legally owed by the consumer after discharge, which for fully discharged unsecured debt is zero.
    • Account Status moves to the closed or paid condition that matches the facts; a zero balance is required by Account Status 13 and by 61 through 65.
    • Date of First Delinquency stays frozen at its pre-petition value.
    • Only the discharged consumer's segment carries F. A co-obligor who did not file is reported on their own terms.
    • Portfolio Type and Account Type do not change because a bankruptcy discharged.
