What Compliance Condition Code XR means

    • XR is the only way to return a tradeline to no compliance condition. Blanking the field retains the previous code.
    • Send it once. Repeating XR every cycle is harmless but unnecessary; after the first, there is nothing left to remove.
    • Removes the condition, not the account. Account Status, balance, and payment history are unaffected.
    • Because blank does not clear, XR is the single most under-used code in this set and stale dispute flags are the most common consequence.

    When to report XR

    • 1A dispute is fully resolved and the tradeline should stop carrying any dispute condition.
    • 2A compliance condition was reported in error in a prior cycle and needs to be withdrawn.
    • 3An account closed at the consumer's request is being cleaned up after the closure flag has served its purpose.
    • 4A data-quality audit finds tradelines still carrying XB from investigations that closed months earlier.

    Reporting rules

    • Send XR in the cycle after the condition genuinely ends.
    • Audit your portfolio for accounts carrying XB, XC, XD, XE, XF, XG, or XJ with no open investigation -- each one is a live accuracy problem.
    • Do not use XR as a routine monthly default. It is a deliberate removal instruction.
    • If you need to say the investigation finished rather than that it never happened, XH is the accurate code, not XR.

Codes and fields that must agree

A file can be structurally valid and still be wrong. These are the cross-field conditions Compliance Condition Code XR has to satisfy.

    • Clears any of XA, XB, XC, XD, XE, XF, XG, XH, or XJ.
    • Does not change Date Closed. An account closed at the consumer's request keeps its Date Closed after XR removes XA.
    • Only one CCC per record, so XR cannot be combined with another code -- it must occupy its own cycle.
