The clearing code for T. It says the locate condition is over.
Presupposes a prior T. Reporting U on an account that was never flagged as unlocatable describes a change that did not occur.
Blanking the field is not the documented way to clear T. U is.
It says nothing about payment. A located consumer may be current, delinquent, or in collections, and that is the Account Status field's job.
It does not open a new relationship or restart any clock. Nothing about the account's dates or history changes because contact was restored.

1A skip-trace vendor returns a verified new address and phone number for a consumer previously flagged as unlocatable.
2A consumer calls in to update their address after a move, and the servicer clears the locate flag in the next file.
3Returned mail stops after an address-hygiene update and the furnisher confirms deliverability before reporting U.
4A collection furnisher re-establishes right-party contact and updates the tradeline in the same cycle.

Report U in the cycle you actually re-establish contact or confirm a good address.
Update the consumer's address fields in the same record so the file is internally consistent.
Do not report U speculatively on the strength of an unverified address hit.
Do not leave T in place after contact resumes. A stale locate flag is an inaccuracy like any other.
Do not use U to signal anything about payment or account condition; those live in other fields.

A file can be structurally valid and still be wrong. These are the cross-field conditions Consumer Information Indicator U has to satisfy.

Expects a prior T. U without T is a sequence error a validator can catch.
Address fields should carry the current, verified address in the same record that reports U.
Account Status, Current Balance, Amount Past Due and the Payment History Profile are unaffected by the locate change.
Date of First Delinquency is unaffected. Restoring contact never re-ages a delinquency.
Applies to the consumer named on the segment it appears in, so clearing a Base Segment locate flag does not clear one on a J1 or J2 segment.
