What Account Type Code 93 means

    • Created by a court order, not by a credit agreement. There is no underwriting, no note, and no lender.
    • Distinct from Account Type 50, which covers spousal or general family support. Code 93 is specifically child support.
    • Reported as Portfolio Type O because each ordered period is due in full and unpaid periods accumulate as arrears.
    • Does NOT mean an informal support arrangement. Without a court order, there is no obligation of the kind this code describes.
    • Recovery is frequently by income withholding, which means an obligor can be current in every period without making a conventional payment.

    When to report 93

    • 1A state child-support enforcement agency reports a court-ordered obligation being satisfied by income withholding, current in every period.
    • 2An agency reports a support order with accumulated arrears after several unpaid periods.
    • 3An agency reports arrears being repaid under a negotiated arrears payment schedule alongside the current ordered amount.
    • 4An agency reports an obligation that terminated when the child reached majority, with arrears still owed.
    • 5An agency reports an obligation fully satisfied, closing the tradeline at a zero balance.

    Reporting rules

    • Report accumulated arrears as the Current Balance and the ordered periodic amount in the payment fields.
    • Do not report the total future value of the order as a balance. Only amounts actually due and unpaid belong there.
    • Apply a court modification prospectively; do not restate prior periods to match a new order.
    • Do not identify the child or any other person in any field. The Base Segment names the obligor.
    • Continue reporting arrears after the ongoing obligation terminates, until the arrears are satisfied.

Codes and fields that must agree

A file can be structurally valid and still be wrong. These are the cross-field conditions Account Type Code 93 has to satisfy.

    • Portfolio Type must be O (Open).
    • Portfolio Type O expects a Terms Duration of one period and a Terms Frequency that matches the ordered interval, which may legitimately be W (Weekly), B (Biweekly), S (Semimonthly) or M (Monthly). Defaulting to M when the order is weekly misstates when a period is missed.
    • Credit Limit must be blank or zero.
    • Amount Past Due should equal the currently delinquent arrears under the order and must reconcile with the Payment History Profile.
    • Date of First Delinquency is the first ordered period that went unpaid and was never cured, and it anchors the FCRA purge window as it would on any other obligation.
    • ECOA reporting is individual to the obligor. A joint ECOA code or an associated-consumer segment asserting shared liability contradicts the nature of a support order.
    • When the ongoing obligation terminates but arrears remain, the account stays open with a balance; a Date Closed reported while arrears are outstanding is a contradiction.
    • Scheduled Monthly Payment on an Open account is either blank or the amount currently ordered for the period, never an amortized figure derived from total arrears.
    • Highest Credit, where reported, should reflect the peak arrears balance rather than the ordered periodic amount.
    • Date Opened is the effective date of the order, and it must not postdate the Date of Account Information the record ships with.
